Just wanted to show you guys my latest drawing homework assignment. It's a tonal study of a still life. I only used black, white, light gray, and dark gray toned paper. it took me TEN AND A HALF HOURS to complete. I thought I was going to die. But it was worth it because mine was TOTALLY the best one in the class. Some people didn't even finish. I mean. really? My professor really liked it. He said it showed how much time I spent on it then fist bumped me. Yeah. I'm awesome.

In the still life is a stuffed dog sitting on top of a book, a lamp is behind the dog, my wood organic sculpture from last semester, an iron, and a shoe. They're all sitting on top of fabric.

I really like how this turned out and I might use it for my transfer portfolio.

Alright!

So I'm back in school, keeping busy with all of my homework. Taking several liberal arts classes this semester so I've got a lot of reading and writing to do in addition to my drawing and 2D homework. booo.

Over the break, I spoke to my parents about my plans for college. In the end, I decided to move back home and go to the college in my town which is less than a block away from my home, pretty awesome. So basically, this is my last semester here in Memphis. I'm going to try and make the best of it!

Work on my condom dress is coming along. A huge thank you goes out to my mom for helping me make the actual dress, now I just need to attach the condoms. That part isn't going to be fun. I realized recently that my original plans probably wont work out how I had hoped, but I'll figure something out.

I'm looking forward to a really great semester as well as moving back home in May!!!

So today was interesting. I don't think I've mentioned previously, but I am participating in a fashion design competition. We have to make a garment made from condoms. Yup. So, today was the day that we pick them up. It was at Choices which is like the smaller version of Planned Parenthood. It's an organization that focuses on reproductive and sexual health. So I went down there today, and as I am walking in the front door I'm thinking "God I hope no one I know sees me go in..." That would be awkward.

It's a really nice building. We were given a tour to help understand the organization better. After that, we were given our condoms. We could choose from two categories: apparel or accessories. I chose apparel, obviously. For apparel, we got 300 male condoms and could choose an extra 50 male or 50 female. I took the female ones. They're a lot larger and have that extra ring in there that I think I can use. I also took 200 natural colored condoms and 100 black ones. There were other colors like pink and blue and purple, but I didn't want them because (this sounds weird) they were really nice colors and I would want to use them a lot and I would run out. I am going to experiment with dyeing the natural ones. I never thought I would be looking at condoms for their aesthetic qualities...

Since we don't get a lot of condoms, the entire design doesn't have to be them. The woman in charge told us about how someone made a ballgown with 7,000 condoms. I am planning a trip to Joann later this week. They are having a great sale so I will be able to get all of the extra materials I need.

I'm really looking forward to getting this started. While I am working on this, I will also be working on my FIT portfolio because I have to make up to three garments for that. Luckily, there are sewing machines on campus. I've been talking to a woman about using them. She says they're "funky," so this might inspire them to get a new one, maybe. I hope so. This is kind of a big deal.

Today is my Dad's birthday, so I'm dedicating this post to him.

Daddy, you are so amazing! You are the reason I always wanted to be an artist, and you were always great inspiration for me. You can always make me laugh. Together, we have shared insane conversations as well as intellectual ones. You are always there to listen, even when I don't know what to say. And we have fun together!!!

I miss you so much and I can't wait to see you in a couple of weeks!!!

This was such a long week. Tuesday night I stayed up very late working on my Color Foundations homework. It looked good, but I was exhausted the entire day. What doesn't help is the fact that I signed up for a free month of Netflix, so now I can't stop watching Dark Shadows. It's the original 1960's soap opera. It's probably one of the worst shows that was ever on television, but it's still pretty great. Stupid Netflix, however, only has 4 of 20 seasons and I am three quarters of the way through. I don't know what I will do without it....

I applied to FIT on Tuesday and I also sent my transcripts. Hopefully I will be hearing back from SCAD soon, but I still need to get my portfolios together. A portfolio is a required part of the application at FIT, but not SCAD.

Tonight was my school's big Halloween party. I remember when a representative came to my  high school and talked about how great it was, I was really looking forward to it. But this party was terrible! For my costume, I was Mia Wallace from Pulp Fiction. I had a white button down shirt and black leggings. I found a wig and cut it to look like her hair. I even painted blood running out of my nose just like the scene where Mia snorts heroin and almost overdoses. I wish I had a fake syringe. I really would've made the costume better. Anyways, my friends and I took the shuttle to the party location. It was about half an hour into the party when we got there. There weren't many people. The pizza they were serving was awful, I didn't even finish my one slice. The music wasn't really anything you could dance to. Overall, the party was quite boring. Some of the costumes were really good. A couple people recognized who I was supposed to be. That made me happy. I didn't expect many people to have seen the movie. As for the party, it just really sucks when you put a lot of time into something and it ends up being so disappointing.
